The late summer through the early fall is prime apple picking season. You are probably already thinking you have more than enough to do, but this is a wonderful activity for the whole family. The best apple picking venues are the family farms and orchards, and they provide a wide array of all kinds of activities from hay rides to making cider.
Make sure there is a good crop and that the particular apple variety you like is ripe and ready. Also, confirm that all other activities and events are going to be open and offered at the time and date you want to go.
Little children will love picking apples with help from Mom and Dad. Remember, you pay for what you pick so watch the little ones and be prepared to call it a day when their interest seems to lag. It is also a good idea to plan your apple picking outing to the time of lowest
attendance. Ask the orchard when they open and plan your outing for the first hour or so, ideally not on a weekend.
Dress For Success
Apple picking is not a spectator sport. Wear something comfortable and make sure you are dressed for the outdoors as well.
