Easy Ways To Prep For Tax Season

One of the most important aspects of any renovation or remodeling project is to have the right professionals on the job. This means starting with the task of finding the best contractor for your renovation project.

Finding a contractor is not something that should be rushed. By taking the time and evaluating the contractor in relationship to the work you need done, you will find someone you can trust to get the job done on time and on budget.

Research

Go online, ask friends and neighbors and check with different sources such as the BBB (Better Business Bureau) or other feedback sites to find top professionals in your area.

Call and meet

Have a short phone conversation and ask about their licensing, insurance and experience. If you are still interested in the professional based on the answers, schedule an in-person meeting. Ask for references for similar renovations and follow up with these past clients.

Make a short list of specialists

Narrow your choices down to no more than five professionals that specialize in your remodel. For example, if you are working on the bathroom, look for a bathroom renovation contractor, not someone specializing in kitchens.

Know your plan

Develope a clear understanding of what you want and talk to each contractor using the same information. This will ensure you are getting competitive bids. Look for a contractor that provides full detail on the estimate. Watch out for vague areas that can result in extra costs and wording that indicates there are “allowances.”.

Your first impressions of the contractor over the phone and at the meeting are important. Ideally, look for someone with good communication skills, that is knowledgeable and transparent with answers, and that has a solid reputation with past clients for professionalism, quality of work and keeping the project on time and budget.
